Lead Earthing & Bonding Engineer

Lead Earthing & Bonding Engineer role delivering major rail projects, shaping critical safety systems and leading complex HV/LV infrastructure design.

We are partnering with a leading engineering consultancy to appoint an experienced Lead Earthing & Bonding Engineer to join their expanding national Power team.

With major project delivery underway across Melbourne's transport network, including the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) and North West Program Alliance, this role offers the opportunity to shape critical safety systems at the heart of Australia's future transport and energy infrastructure.

As the Lead Earthing & Bonding Engineer, you will act as a technical authority across a broad range of power engineering disciplines, while leading teams, engaging with senior stakeholders, and contributing to the delivery of complex, high-profile projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical authority across HV/LV systems, substations and network infrastructure (up to 132kV+)
  • Lead complex studies including earthing design, soil resistivity, step & touch potential, EMI and LFI assessments
  • Oversee earthing grid design, traction return systems and stray current management
  • Lead development and approval of designs for lightning protection, surge protection and bonding systems
  • Review calculations, schematics, models and installation documentation
  • Conduct and support site investigations and testing activities
Project & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams across transport, energy and major infrastructure projects
  • Act as a senior interface with clients, utilities, rail operators and contractors
  • Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments and engineering governance
  • Ensure delivery aligns with technical, regulatory and stakeholder requirements
Team & Business Contribution
  • Mentor and develop engineering capability within the team
  • Support bids, proposals and client engagement
  • Contribute to strategic growth across the Power business
  • Promote innovation and continuous improvement
About You
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Chartered status (CPEng / RPEQ / RPEV) or working towards
  • Strong experience across earthing, bonding, EMI/LFI and lightning protection systems
  • Proficiency in CDEGS / SESShield or similar modelling tools
  • Experience across rail, utilities or major infrastructure environments
  • Strong understanding of traction return and stray current management
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and leadership capability
